After appearing in the action-thriller Spartan (2004) which she also starred in, she was praised for her performance in Gracie's Choice (2004). In 2004, she made her stage debut on Broadway as Becky Thatcher in the comedy musical The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer. Later she was a part of the popular teen drama TV series Veronica Mars (2004). Her performance received critical acclaim as well as a Saturn Award nomination for Best Actress on television. In the 2014 film she reprised her role in the role of the main character and in the new season, she played the title character. Bell was on screen from 2007 to 2008 in the role of Elle Bishop in Heroes, which was a drama about superheroes. Bell voiced her character, the main narrator of the show for teens called Gossip Girl. She will reprise the role for the sequel, which will premiere in 2021. Bell also appeared as Jeannie van der Hooven, who played the female lead on the Showtime comedy series House of Lies. She starred as Eleanor Shellstrop in the NBC comedy series The Good Place. This performance was nominated for an Golden Globe Award. Additionally, Bell portrayed the lead role in the streaming series The Woman in the House across the street from the Girl in the Window.
